TRUMP’S DECLINING MENTALITY: A MEDICAL THEORY

5–7 minutes

As I detailed in a previous post, “AN URGENT NEED TO UNDERSTAND TRUMP’S MENTALITY” https://radiantmortontavel.com/2025/11/05/an-urgent-need-to-understand-trumps-mentality, I quoted from the book, “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump,” which presented the opinions of 27 nationally recognized psychiatrists and psychologists,  published in 2017, later updated in 2024 under a new name, “The More Dangerous Case of Donald Trump,” In it, the contributors concluded that Trump is seriously mentally deranged, primarily considered to be a “psychopathic personality disorder,” often termed “toxic narcissism.” In addition, they expressed the likelihood that he is manifesting an early form of dementia (Alzheimer’s Disease). After careful study of his many statements and behavior, they concluded that he shows mental decline greater than that of normal aging, further asserting that often Alzheimer’s disease advances by an average 15% to 20% within one year, and 50% will develop into full-scale dementia over the next four years.

So, does evidence now support the conclusion that Trump is showing increasing mental decline that could signal dementia? Evidence now points toward several factors as follow: accelerating cruel and irrational immigration policies with ICE agents running amok, murders of suspected drug smugglers without due process, threats to declare war on a sovereign nation, appointing increasingly incompetent individuals to high positions, crassly insulting female reporters, making increasingly incoherent and rambling speeches, and many others.

Recently, my cousin, Sheila Kennedy, who issues a highly accurate blog, https://sheilakennedy.net/ may have uncovered the answer to this riddle, when she encountered a post pointing out that Trump was quite likely receiving a drug named Leqembi, which is used to treat early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

Now, we are provided by more supporting evidence: Sydney Kamlager-Dove, a Democratic member of Congress, representing South Los Angeles, has suggested that Donald Trump is taking an anti-Alzheimer’s medication, intensifying pressure for answers on his mental health. Her theory was based on certain solid facts: First, he has received more than one cognitive test. Second, he received an MRI scan (likely of the brain), and third, that he has demonstrated evidence that his hand was bandaged indicating the possible result of intravenous infusion of the drug, Leqembi. When Daily Beast’s Farrah Tomazin cornered White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt about the bandaging on Trump’s hand, Leavitt claimed the president “is constantly shaking hands” because “The Oval Office is like Grand Central Terminal,” and also linked it to his daily aspirin regime. Tomazin also pressed Leavitt on Trump’s disclosure this week that he had three cognitive tests. Asked by the Daily Beast to clarify their dates, Leavitt said she would provide that information “at a later date,” with the dismissal that “the president has spoken about that quite extensively over the years.” Leavitt also cited Trump’s rambling Truth Social boast about how he “aced” three dementia tests and suggested it was “treasonous” to talk about his health. After Leavitt spoke, Kamlager-Dove almost immediately renewed her suggestion that Trump, 79, is taking the anti-Alzheimer’s drug Leqembi. (generic name lecanemab.)  In her Dec. 4 post, Kamlager-Dove wrote that this drug is administered through an infusion (for example, through the hand) and requires regular MRIs for follow-up.

“I’m not a doctor, but I do think it’s curious that Trump’s drowsiness and visible bruising on his hands are consistent with known symptoms and side effects of Alzheimer’s medications like Leqembi,” Kamlager-Dove told the Daily Beast, which has been leading the charge on covering Trump’s health. “His recent incoherent remarks at a rally in the Poconos and a Truth Social rant about his three cognitive tests have only intensified scrutiny of his memory and mental fitness,” she added. It appears that Rep. Kamlager-Dove joins a growing list of government officials referring to Trump’s obvious cognitive decline. Trump has long attempted to shut down questions about his mental fitness by inaccurately bragging about how he aced “IQ tests,” which were actually cognitive function tests. Moreover, there is reason to suspect Trump is at risk for Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association notes that “those who have a parent or sibling living with Alzheimer’s are more likely to develop the disease than those who do not have a first-degree relative with Alzheimer’s. Trump’s father, Fred Trump, suffered from the disease.

Leqembi, manufactured by Japanese pharmaceutical company Eisai, treats mild cognitive impairment, but it is not an Alzheimer’s cure. Drugs.com writes that Leqembi can delay the onset of severe cognitive decline by five months. The drug’s website suggests an 18-month course of Leqembi before assessing whether a patient should continue treatment. The drug is administered every two weeks through intravenous infusion (IV). Leqembi’s website says patients may experience “redness, swelling, heat, pain, itching, rash, bruising, and blood collection under the skin at the injection site.” The back of Trump’s right hand has consistently shown bruising for several weeks, which is rarely, if ever, caused by handshaking. Leqembi patients receive regular MRIs every few doses to check for certain abnormalities, which can manifest as brain swelling and microhemorrhages. These conditions are asymptomatic and can be fatal if left unchecked.  On Oct. 10, Trump received an MRI at Walter Reed Medical Center, which is seldom, if ever, used as a screening test as part of a regular physical checkup.

So, how can I, as a physician, make sense of this information in a logical way?

Lecanemab (Leqembi) is an FDA-approved infusion treatment for early Alzheimer’s disease with mild cognitive impairment; it targets and clears brain amyloid plaques and slows cognitive and functional decline by about 27% over 18 months as compared to placebo, but it’s not a cure. Administered intravenously, it requires confirmed amyloid pathology via certain scanning tests or spinal fluid tests. It carries risks like (brain swelling/bleeding) seen on MRI which requires close monitoring.

In Trump’s case, we are unaware of what tests, if any, may have confirmed the diagnosis. It is quite likely that brain imaging tests were only ordered after a cognitive abnormality was discovered on prior testing. MRI scans could have been used merely to follow progress of Trump’s response to therapy.

In a sane world, a situation where doctors are treating a president for a condition that clearly and negatively affects decision-making would immediately trigger invocation of the 25th Amendment. In our world, where a delusional president and would-be King surrounded by sycophants, grifters and assorted incompetents, a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s is just one more reason to dissemble, to cover up, to pretend that Trump is hale and hearty.

I do not believe this will end well.
